Living in Botswana

Eleanor lived in Botswana from 1972 to 1975 early in her marriage. As head of the University of Botswana’s national office of adult education, she and her colleagues ran a national radio learning campaign, designed to help people in remote parts of the country participate in a newly independent government.

The youngest children in the photos below are Alan, Eleanor’s first-born child, and Selebaleng. Selebaleng’s mother, Keletso, is wearing blue and holding a black umbrella (see photos of the author’s reunion with Selebaleng and Keletso in 2014).
